ENCA at Extreme Connect 2026

June 24, 2026
While my day-to-day involves keeping network operations running smoothly for the school district, stepping back to architect automated, enterprise-grade access control is a massive leap. Recently, I traded the comfort of my home setup in South Carolina, for the fast-paced, high-stakes environment of Extreme Connect 2026 in Orlando, Florida. My mission was to deep-dive into the next era of AI-powered networking innovation and walk away with my ExtremeControl Installation, Configuration, & Troubleshooting Certification (ENCA). The Pre-Conference ENCA Certification: Before the main event, a group of us gathered for an intensive, three-day partner training bootcamp. We went from deploying basecamp virtual appliances to mastering the policy engine with intricate 802.1X and MAC authentication rules. The culmination of the bootcamp was the "break-fix" gauntlet and the final exam. Navigating the configuration traps and isolating faults under pressure felt incredibly rewarding, and watching the ENCA badge officially sync to my Extreme Academy profile was a massive milestone. Extreme Connect 2026: Walking the floor and attending the breakout sessions gave a massive look into how network orchestration is shifting. Key themes included the shift toward Extreme Platform ONE, real-world design considerations for Wi-Fi 7 & 8, and how humanistic AI is integrating into network management.

Family Life: You can't bring a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning down I-95 without making it a bit of an adventure. I balanced the heavy professional growth by ensuring my family enjoyed the resort's lagoon pools and the local Disney parks, proving you can blend enterprise advancement with family memory-making. The EV Road Trip Reality: When managing a multi-state drive, charging stops have to be strategic. A 30-minute top-off at the Buc-ee's Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging network gave the truck the juice it needed, and gave the kids the perfect excuse to stretch their legs and grab some road trip snacks.

  • Network Access Control: ExtremeControl, ExtremeCloud IQ - Site Engine, RADIUS proxying, MAC Auth, and 802.1X integration.
  • EV Logistics: 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning, Buccees Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging.
Balancing Career and Family: Transitioning between intensive command-line syntax matrices and meeting the family for dinner at a themed spot like the T-REX Cafe required focus and energy, but it highlighted the value of work-life integration. This journey was a perfect blend of technical expertise and personal fulfillment. Earning the ENCA certification and experiencing the upcoming hardware roadmap provided a massive spark for my professional trajectory. It reinforced my enterprise infrastructure skills while sparking new ideas for my NetDevOps and web development side projects—made even better by the lasting memories created with my family on the ultimate "bleisure" trip.
